Why is it important to dispose of expired and unwanted prescription medication properly? Howard County Police and HC DrugFree estimate that two-thirds of teens who abuse prescription drugs are getting them from home, friends or family. While the FDA says that some medications can be flushed environmentalists and HC Drug Free discourage the practice. Recent studies have shown traces of prescription medication, including antibiotics, hormones, and mood stabilizers, in the water supply. The effect on humans isn’t know, it does seem to be having an effect on fish and wild life.
